Abstract
PURPOSE:To prolong service life of thermal head and to enhance reliability of its operation, by giving ductility to wear-resisting layer for protecting heat emitting portion from being worn through friction with recording paper, and thereby enhancing resistivity to thermal shock and protecting said wear-resisting layer against brittle fracture. CONSTITUTION:Glass glaze layer 1b is formed on ceramic base plate 1a and a plurality of heat emitting members 2 are arranged on the layer 1b. Electrodes 3 are placed on the heat emitting members 2 for constituting a heat emitting portion 2', and on the electrodes 3 and heat emitting portion 2', there is provided a wear- resisting layer 4 for protecting the portion 2' against wear. Here, in order to protect wear-resisting layer 4 against brittle fracture, it is made of material obtained by dispersing metals such as Ta, Zr, Ti, Mo, Hf, W, Cr, Ni, Al, etc. in carbide, oxide or nitride of SiC, Al2O3, BN, etc.
