Abstract

A conventional nozzle is made of a composition consisting of graphite (e.g. 30 wt%) and a granulate (e.g. 70 wt%) comprising a major proportion of corundum and alumino-silicates and minor proportions of clay, silicon, and silicon carbide. In order to increase resistance to chemical attack by a covering powder in the mould, according to the invention at least part of the graphite in the composition is replaced by at least one refractory oxide (e.g. ZrO2, Al2O3) and at least one refractory metal (e.g. Mo, Cr).
