PURPOSE:To stabilize the rolling work, and to improve the size of product, by detecting only the load current from the armature current of the looper driving motor, and by employing the motor driven looper for controlling this load current. CONSTITUTION:The output of the voltage detector 21 is compared with and is subtracted from the counter electromotive force of the block 26 by the subtracter 22, and the result of the subtraction is inputted to the block 23; the block 23 produces the signal equivalent to the armature current correspondingly to the output of the subtracter 22; the output signal of the block 23 is converted into the torque by the block 24. Further, the output of the block 24 is integrated unitl the output of the block 24 becomes zero. And the block 23 produces the output equivalent to the speed changing current Ia, only when the speed of the motor 8 is being changed. Accordingly, the output Ia of the block 23 is subtracted 28 from the output I of the armature current detector 16, and the result of subtraction is always taken as the load current. The output of the divider 13, that is the aim current IO, is compared with the above load current IL by the subtracter 14; the difference between IO and IL is inputted to the current controller 15 which then controls the supply voltage for the motor 8 so as to make zero the output of the subtracter 14.
