Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively recover iron as ferrous chloride from a waste aq. iron chloride soln. together with copper by adding iron to the soln.; reacting them under specified conditions; and separating copper from the resulting copper and ferrous chloride.
CONSTITUTION: Iron of suitable form is added to a waste aq. iron chloride soln. used in etching copoer, and they are reacted at 65°C or below and pH2W4. By this reaction ferric chloride in the waste soln. is reduced to ferrous chloride, and copper is separated from cupric chloride. The reaction products ferrous chloride and metallic copper are easily separated by a usual method. The recovered ferrous chloride is recycled as raw material for producing ferric chloride for etching copper. The iron used in the above-mentioned reaction can be used repeatedly and successively since copper deposited on the surface does not adhere.
