Abstract
PURPOSE: To let copper product surfaces be always covered and protected with a patina layer despite aging of the clear layer containing patina powder by forming a Cu2O surface on copper surfaces then coating the clear containing patina powder.
CONSTITUTION: After the copper surfaces of the blank made of copper or having undergone copper plating are mechanically or chemically roughened, they are coated with an aqueous copper nitrate solution or mixed aqueous solution of copper nitrate and edible salt. At this time, a Cu2O film is formed on the copper surfaces of the blank, whereby the surfaces are activated to make production of patina easy. Thereafter, the clear mixed with patina powder, e.g., powder form basic copper sulfate, basic copper carbonate, etc. is coated on the Cu2O film. Even if the clear layer of this treated product ages and peels, the Cu2O film appears and produces patina extremely fast and therefore the appearance of the copper ground does not occur and the surfaces will be covered almost always with the patina layer.
