Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent efflorescence generation and enhance soil resistance and strength of coated layer, by aftertreating a coated body consisting of an inorganic porous substrate and an inorganic coating material with an aqueous potassium antimonate solution or the like.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic coating material containing water-soluble alkali metal silicate as a binder is applied to the surface of an inorganic substrate such as slate and glass, then fired to form an inorganic coated body. In this process, an aftertreatment agent consisting of an aqueous solution of potassium anitimonate and potassium pyroantimonate is used to treat water-soluble monovalent alkali contained in the inorganic material so as to produce a hardly soluble salt. The coated layer is then washed with water. This aftertreatment not only prevents the generation of efflorescence but allows the hardly soluble salt to make the fired layer highly compact, providing an enhanced soil resistance and strength to the coated layer.
