Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly enhance magnetic field uniformity in pole pieces having a logarithmically curved surface by using a special angle θf between its plane and the point of contact.
CONSTITUTION: A pole piece 1 is on core 3 spaced by pure iron spacer 2. The leading edge plane 1a with diameter df faces the opposing pole piece. Outer periphery near the plane 1a is machined in the logarithmically curved surface 1b which is specially calculated, and the angle θf formed by two faces is set to about 2.5W4°. In machining, when the angle θf has reached a specified value, the curved face 1b is cut into either plane face, or conical plane 1c having an angle θf. This structure allows magnetic field distribution to have small and stabilized 2nd and 4th coefficients and each aberration to have minimum dependency on Z. The obtained magnetic field is easy to correct by a device such as a shim coil, thus resulting in an equipment with a highly uniform megnetic field.
