Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the optical fiber ideally suited for CO2 laser surgical knife by forming the optical fiber with the core and clad of the specified materials. CONSTITUTION:If the optical fiber is formed by selecting the material for its core 8 from the mixture of TlBr and TlCl, ZnSe or Ag2Se3 and selecting the material for its clad 9 from AgCl, KBr or CsI, then the thermal expansions of the core 8 and clad 9 approximate, the differences in refractive index become large and the refractive index of the clad 9 becomes close to 1. In addition, the tough optical fiber free from deliquescence characteristic is obtained. Hence, the optical fiber ideally suited for CO2 laser beam and the CO2 laser surgical knife transmitting through the He-Ne laser beam of the guide beam for supporting the focus of this beam is obtained.
