Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain an excellent combustion condition in a supersonic fuel atomization and combustion apparatus by providing the apparatus with a by-pass passage for maintaining the flow rate in a main passage at a predetermined level, and uniformly mixing in a pre-mixing chamber the air from the by-pass passage and the fine-particle-containing air from the main passage. CONSTITUTION:When an oscillator 3 is subjected to resonance with a high frequency current, a jet type liquid column 18 occurs. When air is introduced into a container 2 by a fan 17, a part of the air flows between the liquid surface and a wall 4 into a passage 5, while the remaining part flows from the upper portion of the container 2 into a by-pass passage 7. The air introduced into the passage 5 serves to guide upwardly fine particles generated in the vicinity of the bottom portion of the liquid column 18. Thus, the fine particles flow round the periphery of a scattering plate 6 into a transfer passage 8 to be introduced into a pre-mixing chamber 10 in a combustion unit 9. In the meantime, the air in the by-pass passage 7 enters a wind box section 10 of the combustion unit 9 via a throttle valve 16 to ejected into the pre-mixing chamber 10 through small ports 12 provided in a partition 13. The air introduced into the pre-mixing chamber 10 through the passage 8 and the air ejected into the chamber 10 through the ports 12 are then mixed to be ejected from flame holes 14.
