Abstract

PURPOSE: The dehydrochlorination of 3, 4-dichlorobutene-1 is effected using a specific dehydrochlorinating agent that does not form azeotrope with water, thus inhibiting the formation of 1-chlorobutadiene-1, 3, a by-product, and the polymerization of chloroprene and producing chloroprene in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The dehydrochlorination of 3, 4-dichlorobutene-1 is carried out using a 15W30, preferably 20W25wt% metal alkoxide solution in tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol of the formula as a dehydrochlorinating agent in a nearly stoichiometric amount at 0W80, preferably 20W50°C under normal or reduced pressures in the contact time of preferably less then 30 minutes, thus producing chloroprene. Said dehydrochlorinating agent does not form the azeotrope even when distilled in the aqueous solution system, shows high reaction rate even at lower temperatures and proceeds sufficiently the reaction even in the nonaqueous systm.
EFFECT: The recovery rate of the alcohol is increased and the salt formed as the by- product can be readily recovered.
