Abstract
PURPOSE: The molten polymer of acrylonitrile prepared under specific conditions is spun at a specified spinning speed under specific conditions, thus producing synthetic "igusa"-like structure with high-smooth surface and salability.
CONSTITUTION: A molten acrylic polymer that is made by polymerization of acrylonitrile alone or a mixture thereof with ethylenically unsaturated compounds in the presence of water at a temperature over 120°C under the autogenous pressure is extruded through orifices at a speed of 8W25g/cm2.sec. into the low-pressure zone. The resulting igusa-like structure has high-surface smoothness and high uniformity in foam diameter and fibrilation prevention. The drying of the fibrous foam is effected under such conditions that the tension is loaded and the water content becomes less than 6%, thus giving the product with high fabricability because of keeping high surface smoothness and moderate stiffness.
