Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible a total monitoring of fulid leakage with single system through a short-circuit of a leakage detection cable or change of the electric characteristics thereof by detecting the leakage with the cable at the single tube section and the pressure variation in the tube due to the leakage at the multiple tube section.
CONSTITUTION: When a leak takes place at the single tube section of a pipe line 1, a leakage detection cable 8 changes in the electric characteristics or short-circuits. The leak can be detected by the pulse reflection method, the measurement of the resistance, or the like. When a leak occurs in the inner pipe of the multiple tube section, the pressure in the space between inner and outer pipes rises. The pressure thus raised is introduced into a pressure switch box 5 through a pressure conduit 4 to raise the pressure in the box 5, thereby actuating the pressure switch 12. If the pressure switch 12 is arranges to be a normal contact, a characteristic impedance 11 is allowed to be bridged to the cable 8 according to the rise in the pressure, or when the impedance is not used, the cable is short circuited. The change in the characteristics or the short circuiting is detected by the pulse reflection method, the measurement of the resistance or the like.
