Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool a slab uniformly in lateral direction with simple equipment, by addn. of a trace amount of gas to the main water stream flowing through a flat nozzle so as to form a spray pattern, in which water is positioned at the central zone and mist at both corner zones in the lateral direction. CONSTITUTION:A branch pipe 3 is connected to a main water pipe 2 at an arbitrary angle theta in order to add a trace amount of air 3' to the main spray water stream 2'. Then a pref. spray pattern is given where water 6 is positioned at the central zone 4c in lateral direction of a steel slab 4, and the mist 5, 5' at both corners 4a, 4b. Because air is added in a trace amount, it is unnecessary to change the quantity of air with change in the quantity of water passing through the flat nozzle 1, consequently the air quantity is easily controlled.
