Abstract

PURPOSE: To devise to obtain a high torque characteristic in low speed and a low rate of fuel consumption in a wide range of engine revolution by making full use of the potential of a supercharger to promote the capacity of an engine.
CONSTITUTION: In this construction, exhaust gas from an engine 1 is conducted to a distribution valve 3 through a pipe 2. In the time of idling or low speed, the exhaust gas is wholly distributed to a pipe 4, and supplied only to a scroll 5 of a high pressure turbocharger T. Then, a turbine 7 and consequently a compressor 8 are driven, and the air is supplied to the engine 1 through a charge cooler 12 in a supercharged state. After the revolution of the engine is increased to raise the pressure in the pipe 2, another flow passage is opened in a pipe 9 by the distribution valve 3 according to the pressure, and the exhaust gas conducted through a turbine 7 is introduced into a power-collecting turbine 15 to rotate a crank shaft 19. When the speed of revolution is further increased, the exhaust gas is also distributed to a low pressure turbocharger T2.
