Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect failure in fixing device in a short time, by detecting the heater temperature upon rise of heater, measuring the increment of temperature from the detected temperature, and detecting failure of heat fixing device from the abnormality in temperature increment.
CONSTITUTION: The temperature at the time of rise of heater H is detected by a temperature sensing element TH used in a temperature adjusting circuit TC, and the rate of increment of temperature within a specified time is measured. If this increment rate is less than the specified value, an abnormality is judged. That is, changes in the output of temperature sensing element TH, or the potential due to the temperature sensing element TH and resistance r1, or control current due to current control circuit 3 are properly corresponded with the changes in temperature, and the signal obtained by such correspondence is inputted into an interface I/O of a microcomputer MC through an A/D converter. By using this input signal, the increment rate of temperature is measured, and abnormality is judged. Thus, failure of fixing device may be detected in a short time before reaching a proper temperature.
