PURPOSE:To control the fixing temperature and to detect the disconnection of a fixing heater or a detecting element for fixing temperature with just one detection signal, by adding both temperature control function and disconnection detecting function to a micro CPU. CONSTITUTION:The output of a fixing temperature detecting circuit 36 is converted through an A/D converter 33 to be read into a microcomputer 10 in the form of a fixing temperature data. The computer 10 energizes an SSR18 based on the fixing temperature data and controls the supply of electric power to a fixing heater 20 to set the fixing temperature at a certain level. At the same time, the computer 10 detects the disconnection of the heater 20 or a fixing temperature detecting element in the circuit 36 by measuring the duration of time when the fixing data is kept continuously in the form of an intial value data or turned into a specific data to be kept as it is. In such way, the fixing temperature is controlled and the disconnection is detected for the fixing heater or the fixing temperature detecting element.
