Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover sulfur from exhaust gas efficiently and cheaply by allowing sulfur oxides in the gas to be adsorbed on a carbonaceous adsorbent supporting an alkaline aubstance in a moving bed type reactor and introducing the adsorbent into other moving bed type reactor, where it is reacted with countercurrent heated air at a high temp.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous substance such as partially dry-distilled coke or coal is packed into moving bed type reactor 4 after supporting an alkaline substance such as sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate by dipping the carbonaceous substance in a soln. of the alkaline substance or other method. Various combustion exhaust gases are introduced into reactor 4 pref. at 100W200°C from pipe 1 through temp. controller 3 and passed through packed bed 5 to allow sulfur oxides to be adsorbed according to the reactions of equations I, II, etc. Bed 5 is then carried to an upper portion of moving bed type sulfur recovering reactor 7, and air heated pref. to 400W800°C is introduced from lower pipe 8. The interior of reactor 7 is maintained at about 750W1000°C to induce the reactions of equations V, VI following the reactions of equations III, IV, and sulfur thus formed in recovered.
