Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance cooling efficiency and to omit a pump for circulating liquid to be cooled, by forming a chamber for liquid to be cooled inside a coolant chamber and circulating the liquid to be cooled through reciprocal movement of a slidable member provided in said chamber for liquid to be cooled.
CONSTITUTION: In drawing liquid to be cooled into chamber 1b for liquid to be cooled, disposed in cooler 1, slidable member 1d located at the bottom of chamber 1b is moved upward by means of piston 9a of a driving means, with changeover valve 5b being closed and changeover valve 5a being opened. Along with upward movement of the member 1d, liquid to be cooled is drawn from tested engine 4 into chamber 1b. Then, cooling operation is conducted by moving member 1d reciprocally upward and downward and at the same time circulating low-temperature coolant through coolant pipe 2 and coolant chamber 1a by means of coolant pump 7, with changeover valve 5a being closed and changeover valve 5b being opened. In this cooling process, precipitate of paraffin produced on cooling surface 1c of chamber 1b is scraped off by the reciprocal movement of slidable member 1d, and at the same time, liquid to be cooled in chamber 1b is agitated sufficiently so that it can be cooled uniformly.
