Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a slide surface having a constant melting depth and width and uniform anti-wear strength by heating and melting a cam slide surface while a torch is moved at a definite angle always to said cam slide surface to form a white pig iron hardened layer. CONSTITUTION:A cam 4 is positioned so as to make the B-C slide surface of the connecting part 7 thereof horizontal and an electrode 8 is opposed to said surface vertically. A motor 2 is driven and a torch 1 is moved to a C point from an A point by a drive apparatus 3 as well as simultaneously vibrated to vertical directions in a figure to heat and melt the A-C slide surface of the cam. When the torch 1 reaches the C point, the movement of the torch 1 is stopped and the cam 4 is rotated to similarily heat and melt the C-D slide surface thereof. In the next stage, the cam is stopped so as to make the D-E space of the connecting part 7' thereof and the torch 1 is moved to a righthand direction to similarily heat and melt the D-F slide surface thereof. After the cam 4 is allowed to be cooled naturally, it is cooled by water to form a chill layer alpha having a circular cross area on the slide surface between A-F and a martensite layer beta therearound. In the case of the cam for an internal combustion engine, it is unnecessary to form the layer alpha to a base circular part 5.
