Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the title molded article having a thickness larger than the maximum range of electron rays, and having improved electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, by adding a specitic amount of a specific amine to the molded article and the irradiating the article with electron rays.
CONSTITUTION: A polyethylene molded article having a thickness of ≥ 4mm, containing 0.2-2 parts by weight, based on 100 parts of the polyethylene, of a primary, secondary or tertiary amine of formulas (1) - (3) (XR1, YR2 ZR3 are alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl) and having a pKb of ≤ 9.5, is irradiated with electron rays having the maximum range of smaller than the thickness of the molded article. The amine eliminates the accumulation of electric charge in the molded article during the irradiation, and lowers the electric field. The generation of minute cracks can be prevented, and the title article having improved mechanical, electrical and thermal properties can be obtained.
