Abstract

PURPOSE: To miniaturize a temperature controller by eliminating the need for a thermocouple and thermometer by finding the effective resistance of an electric heater from its voltage value and current value in power feed stage where a liquid metal is heated, and then by controlling an input to the heater in accordance with the effective resistance value.
CONSTITUTION: Electric heater 2, fitted near liquid-sodium-based piping 1, is connected to power supply 6 by way of ammeter 3, temperature controller 4 and switch 5. Then voltmeter 7 is connected across electric heater 2 and ammeter 3 and voltmeter 7 are connected to divider 8. Then, values of a voltage across and current through electric heater 2 are supplied to divider 8 in conduction state of heater 2 heating the liquid metal so as to obtain the effective resistance value of electric heater 2 by divider 8 and in accordance with variation in effective resistance value, temperature controller 4 is controlled to control a voltage applied across electric heater 2 from power supply 6.
