Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce pumping losses by half as compared with the conventional system and prevent oil rise and oil drop, by closing the valve for a part of the cylinders when their operation is to be idled and drawing in exhaust gas at the suction time. CONSTITUTION:When a stop signal is given to a part of the cylinders from control circuit 9 at the time of the no load operation of the engine, suction valve 8 is totally closed, and at the same time, atmospheric pressure is drawn from pressure control valve 17 into pressure chamber 16 partitioned by diaphragm 14, and the pressing force of diaphragm 14 is released. When the piston descends and the inner pressure of combustion chamber 6 drops under this condition, check valve 12, which has been closed by spring 11, is opened and exhaust from operating cylinders is sucked into the combustion chamber via exhaust intake path 7. Next, when exhaust valve 10 is opened in the exhaust stroke the exhaust in combustion chamber 6 is discharged from exhaust path 5.
