Abstract

PURPOSE: To make process simple and make the conduction of electrodes sure by depositing a metal film on the inside circumferential surface of the electrode connecting parts of the upper and lower electrode connecting portions other than liquid crystal sealing ports without coating sealing material thereon then fusion welding metal on the surface thereof and performing electrical connection.
CONSTITUTION: Sealing material 5 is coated on one end of upper and lower substrates 1, 2 wider than other portions, by which a cavity 9 where no sealing material 5 is coated is formed in this portion. The connecting part of upper and lower electrodes 3, 4 is formed in the cavity 9. A Ni-Cr.Au film 7 is evaporated on the periphery of the end face and inside surface of the cavity 9 and solder is fusion welded on the film 7, whereby the electrodes 3, 4 are electrically connected. In this way, the contact area of the film 7 and solder 8 is increased and the reliability of the electrical conduction is enhanced. In addition, the film 7 formation and soldering 8 of the upper and lower connecting parts which had thus far required to be made at two or more positions are required to be done at one position only and the process for conductive paste coating is eliminated. Hence, productivity enhances as well.
