Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, in high yield, by the reaction of a 2,3- dimethoxy-6-methyl-1,4-benzohydroquinone with a prenol or an isoprenol using a condensation catalyst treated with cyclodextrin.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula IV is obtained by the reaction of 2,3-dimethoxy-6-methyl-1,4-benzohydroquinone of formula I (R1 is H or acyl) with a prenol or isoprenol of formula II [Either X1 or X3 is OH, alkoxy, acyloxy or halogen; X2-X3 forms a bond when X1 is the above; X1-X2 forms a bond when X3 is the above; R2 is formula III (n is 0W11; Y1,Y2 are H or Y1-Y2 forms a bond) or its reactive derivative in the presence of a condensation catalyst treated with cyclodextrin.
USE: Precursor of coenzyme Q.
