Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the colored oxide film which is free from spalling and is of superior throwing power by subjecting an Al material to electrolysis under the specific conditions in the electrolytic bath containing metal salts after anodic oxidation treatment.
CONSTITUTION: After a base material composed of Al or its alloy is subjected to anodic oxidation treatment by an ordinary method, this as one or both electrodes is dipped in the electrolytic bath containing metal salts and is electrolyzed by applying such a voltage at which the polarities invert alternately within a unit time. If at this time the pulse voltage of the trapezoidal wave form such as the one shown in the figure or the waveform close thereto is applied, flowing of excessive surge current at the polarity inversion is prevented and therefore the occurrence of spalling at the film forming is obviated. In addition, the film has good color formability and even throwing powe of color.
