Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the colored oxide film which is free from spalling and is of good throwing power by subjecting an Al material to anodic oxidation treatment then electrolyzing the same in the electrolytic bath containing metal salts under the specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A base material composed of Al or its alloy is subjected to anodic oxidation treatment by an ordinary method, after which this as one or both electrodes is dipped in the electrolytic bath containing metal salts and is subjected to electrolysis by applying such a voltage at which the polarities invert alternately within a unit time. If at this time, controlling is so performed that the pulse currents of the square wave shown in the figure or the waveform close to this flow, then flowing of excessive surge current at the polarity inversion is prevented and therefore the occurrence of spalling at the film forming is obviated. In addition, the film is of good color formability and has even throwing power of color.
