Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce colored film of beautiful primary color, by interposing a process for anodic treatment and a process for AC electrolytic treatment with a prescribed acidic soln. between a film forming process by anodic oxidation and an electrolytic coloring process.
CONSTITUTION: In coloring aluminum or its alloy, the aluminum or its alloy is subjected to anodic treatment in a soln. which forms a barrier or semi-barrier film, then to AC electrolytic treatment in a soln. contg. one or more members among sulfuric acid, nitric acid, oxalic acid, sulfamic acid, ammonium hydrogensulfate between a film forming process and an electrolytic coloring process. Bath contg. org. acid, inorg. acid, org. alkali, inorg. alkali, and their salts is effective for anodic oxidation thereby uniformalizing the film. The coloration depends upon the AC electrolysis conditions, i.e., varying suitably the conditions such as composition, oncn., temp., of the bath, and voltage during AC treatment allows to produce desired color by the following electrolytic coloring process using metal salt soln.
