Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a film having beautiful primary color, by the anodic oxidation of aluminum in a prescribed acidic soln., by AC electrolytic treatment of the aluminum in the same bath, then by performing electrolytic coloration.
CONSTITUTION: This method relates to the formation of a colored film, which is resistant to weather and wear, on the surface of aluminum or its alloy by the anodic oxidation with an aqueous soln. contg. one or more members among sulfuric acid, nitric acid, oxalic acid, sulfamic acid, ammonium hydrogensulfate to form a film. Then AC electrolytic treatment is performed in the same bath at a voltage lower than that for forming said film. Other org. or inorg. acid may be added to the bath. The coloration depends upon the conditions for AC electrolysis, i.e., the film varies remarkably by changing the composition or concn. of the bath. Preferably, the bath temp. is 30W70°C, treating time is form several tens of seconds to about 10min, the voltage is generatlly about 2W15V. Subsequently, the material is subjected to electrolytic coloration in metallic salt soln. thereby producing desired blue, yellow, green, violet, or greenish color.
