Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the inclusion of mold powder, the uneven distribution at the molten metal surface and uneven flowing in by giving the molten steel rotating flow which is level to the molten metal surface itself in the mold and is of the specific velocity of flow of the extent of preventing the formation of bubble nuclei. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic stirrers 9 are respectively provided to the longer sides 8 of a continuous casting mold 6 for undeoxidized steel corresponding to rimmed steel or semi-killed steel. These give thrusts 10, 10' of respectively opposite directions to the molten steel in the mold, thereby evenly giving the horizontally rotating flow 7 of the velocity of flow effective for removal of bubble nuclei of 0.1-1.0m/sec. to the entire part of the molten metal surface. In actual process, however, care is exercised so as to give velocity of flow of 0.1m/sec. or more even to the position of about 20mm below the molten metal surface by devicing the installation positions of the electromagnetic stirrers 9 considering the scale-off amount at the reheating-rolling time.
