Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain EC of good response speed, coloring density and stability by forming the transmission type electrochromic (EC) of the solid element through lamination of the specified thin films.
CONSTITUTION: After a transparent electrode film 42 such as indium oxide or other is formed on a transparent substrate 41, a porous EC thin film 43 as a counter electrode of invariable optical characteristics in a substantially visible region which permits the reversible entry and exit of cations and electrons of the amount compensating their charges is laminated of oxide or sulfide of tungsten or other. Further the lamination of an ion transmittable insulation film 44, an EC thin film 45 as a display electrode of changing optical characteristics in a visible region by permitting the reversible entry and exit of cations and the electrons of the amount compensating their charges and a transparent conductive film 46 yields the EC solid element of high stability through easy manufacturing. When voltage is so applied that the display electrode and counter electrode types of this element become negative and positive or positive or negative, the balance of charges is maintained by the reversible giving and receiving of electrons and the EC element of high response and good high coloring density owing to its transmission characteristics may be obtained.
