Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of less reactive triphenylmethanol is made to facilitate by using an activated imidazole derivative, thus producing 1-triphenylmethyl-imidazole that shows antifungal activity at industrially advantageous temperatures in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A triphenylmethanol bearing substituted or unsubstituted phenyl groups that is advantageous in chemical stability and production process employed is used as a starting material, which is made to react with a di(1-imidazolyl)disulfide or di(1-imidazolyl)sulfide at room temperature or with heat to produce 1- tripheylmethylimidazole without using high temperatures that are industrially diadvantageous in high yield. The above imidazole active derivative is obtained by reaction of an imidazole trialkylsilyl derivative and sulfur dichloride or disulfur dichloride and the product can be used for the reaction without isolation and purification.
