Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the advanced treatment of BOD and COD in an apparatus in which stringy contact materials are vertically laid in a vertically long treating tower to form a circulating pathway for a combination of part of treated water and a definite ratio of original water.
CONSTITUTION: After charging waste water from the original water-charging portion 11 into the tower 10, a maximumly air-dissolved water is introduced into the tower to form an ascending flow of the original water containing oxygen in a sufficient amount which is, in turn, brought into contact with stringy contact materials vertically laid in the tower for biological treatment. A part of the treated water in introduced from the circulating take-out portion 13 to the interflowing portion 14 and also original water is introduced from the original water charging portion 12 to the interflowing portion 14 in such a way that the ratio of the water flow rate from the circulating take-out portion to the original water flow rate from the original water charging portion is predetermining, and then the mixed water is introduced through the circulating circuit 16 to the bottom of the tower, wherein a supply water containing sufficient oxygen supplied from the mixer 19 is supplied at the same time.
