Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the hydrogen cracking resistance of welded structures by subjecting the low carbon steel base metals having limited amounts of Cu, Mo to submerged arc welding by the use of the wire specified from the relation of the Cu contents of the base metals and the rate of dilution.
CONSTITUTION: In subjecting base metals of low carbon steel or low carbon low alloy steel containing Cu; 0.20W0.60%, Mo; 0.02% to submerged arc wesding, the composition of the welding wire is limited to the steel containing Cu; 0.2-Xx(Cu contents of base metals)/1-X or more and 0.6% or less, Mo; 0.02% or less. Thereby, the welded metal containing Cu; 0.20% or more, Mo; 0.02% or less is formed. Under such welding conditions, the welded structure which is superior in hydrogen cracking resistance and is further improved in strength and toughness is produced.
