Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible high-speed image writing by applying the specified voltage for s short time to the writing liquid crystal light bulb element at the starting of the driving means for said element.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of connecting a power source 8 to the photo writing liquid crystal light bulb 1 composed of glass substrates 2, 3, transparent electrodes 4, 5, of In2O3, CdS photoconductive layers 6, mixed cholesteric liquid crystals 7 to drive the same, the voltage above thr threshold voltage value at which the liquid crystals 7 cause phase transition is applied for a short time to the element 1 a fixed time before the time when the video information is first inputted at the time of turning the power source 8 again ON and inputting the new video information by an image pickup optical system 9 in order to rewrite the video information having been stored, whereby the liquid crystals 7 are shifted to a transparent nematic phase.
