Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of leak light by attenuation of the effective electric field of a liquid crystal by changing potential difference between common and segment electrodes upon lapse of time in the direction where shutter apertures are optically turned off after the start of an image recording operation for one page. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 19 is started and the common electrodes Ca, Cb of a liquid crystal shutter array 1 are maintained at zero V, then prescribed AC signals are impressed to the respective segment electrodes Sg at the time of starting the recording operation. The state of the liquid crystal of the array 1 is thereby uniformized and refreshed. A driving control circuit 18 is started and the image writing operation is started when the top part of the photosensitive layer of a photosensitive drum 4 comes to the underside of an optical writing head 6. The apertures A and B are selected time sharingly and the images for one line are formed in one period thereof. The voltage between the electrodes Ca and Sg are made into the square wave voltage of a specified period in the direction where the array 1 is optically turned off. The voltage level thereof is displaced in the direction where the apertures A, B are further optically turned off stepwise at, for example, 2sec.
