Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the control precision by minimizing delay elements involved in trace controlling and enable welding sufficiently close to the forward vertical plate, by providing four sensor pins of selectively retractable design to detect the distance from the torch end to the base metal in four positions on the torch outer circumference.
CONSTITUTION: Respective sensor pins 3aW3d are disposed at equal intervals in longitudinal and lateral positions in the running direction of the arrow, enclosing a welding electrode 2 in the outer circumference of a torch main body 1, and are projected in each electrode axial direction. The sensor pin 3 can be moved in the axial direction, and the relative position between the torch main body 1 and sensor pin 3 can be detected by a differential transformer 4 at the upper end or a limit switch. When on in use, on the other hand, the engaging part 5 of the pin upper end is engaged with a key hole 6 of the torch main body 1 so as to be retractable.
