Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently product the title bottle by subjecting a glass bottle of uniform thickness to alkali removing treatment at a high temp. followed by ion exchange treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Ammonium sulfate, sulfur dioxide gas, Flon gas or the like is reacted with the inside of a glass bottle at a high temp. in a heating furnace to remove alkali, thus forming an inner low concn. alkali layer. The glass bottle has an average belly actual thickness X of 1.5W3mm, a min. belly actual thickness of X(1-0.3)mm or more and a max. belly actual thickness of X(1+0.3)mm or less. The bottle is then subjected to ion exchange treatment by a molten alkali salt bath dipping method or an aq. alkali salt soln. spraying and heat treatment method. By this method a compressive stress layer is formed on the glass surface to obtain the desired light-weight bottle. It is more desirable to provide the bottle outside with a metal oxide film prior to the alkali removing treatment and to coat an org. glass surface protecting agent after the ion exchange treatment.
