Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title coke with strength comparable to that of a coke for blast furnace produced from conventional formulated coal, by modification of a granulated coal in advance and then by admixing the modified coal with a formulated coal to carry out coke formation.
CONSTITUTION: A granulated coke 1 with a size of ca. 1mm is mixed with a binder 2 having a softening point ≥40°C and a ratio C/H ≥0.6 in the mixer 3 followed by charging the resulting mixture into the rotating drum 4 maintained at temperatures above the softening point of the binder to carry out granulation while rolling the mixture in the drum. The resulting granulate is then introduced into the water-cooling device 5 followed by being alternately stored and dewatered between two hoppers 7 and then ground by the grinder 8 into a granulated product with a size of ca. 1mm, which is then mixed with a formulated coal in the both 9, fed to a coke oven, and subjected to dry distillation into the objective coke.
