Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable rigid joint part to be obtained by forming a solder coated layer to at least one of fitting parts of a pair of metal pipes having fitting parts and adjusting fitting, heating and cooling of the fitting part after giving of ultrasonic vibrations.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a copper pipe 1 has an expanded end part that can be fitted onto an Al pipe 2, and the respective end parts are dipped in a solder bath 3 of zinc-base alloy containing a small amount of Al, at which time vibrations are given thereto from an ultrasonic horn 4. After a fixed time, the end parts are pulled up from the bath 3 to allow coated layers 5 to form. Next, the end parts are fitted with each other and are disposed perpendicularly, thence vibrations are given thereto with an ultrasonic horn 6 contacted to the top end of the upper pipe 2, during which time the coated layers are heated with plural gas burners 7 and are thereby melted. If this is cooled, defects will be produced and therefore, the foregoing heating is gradually decreased without being immediately stopped so that the cooling of the outer pipe in the fitting part is delayed from the cooling of the inner pipe. In this way, the unstabilization of the bonded part owing to the production of shrinkage cavities and tensile stress in the filled and soldered upper exposed face is eliminated.
