Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently separate a rare earth element from an aq. soln. of a mixt. of yttrium and the element by contacting an aq. soln. of the element-enriched hydroxyethylethylenediamine triacetic acid to an extracting reagent contg. a specified phosphoric acid ester as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. contg. yttrium (Y) and a rare earth element is contacted to an extracting reagent (A) contg. tributyl phosphate and an acidic phosphoric acid ester of the formula as effective components. The resulting Y and the element-contg. reagent (A) phase is contacted to an aq. soln. of hydroxyethylethylenediamine triacetic acid (HEDTA) to obtain an Y-enriched reagent (A) phase and an aq. soln. phase contg. the element-enriched HEDTA by phase separation. The aq. soln. phase is then contacted to an extracting reagent (B) contg. a 1W12C phosphoric acid ester as an effective component to shift the element to the reagent (B) phase. The separated aq. soln. of HEDTA is recycled, and Y is taken out of the Y-enriched reagent (A) phase.
