PURPOSE:To ensure an assured automatic tracking and direction indication with elimination of the effect due to the background by receiving only the laser reflection light sent from the mobile object via the range gate. CONSTITUTION:The laser pulse is irradiated to the target object from laser beam irradiation part 1, and thus the reflection light enters split photoelectric converter 23. Based on the reflection pulse, the distance signal to the target can be obtained via counter 502. Using the output of the distance signal plus the start pulse, gate pulse generator 507 generates the gate pulse to turn on gates 503 and 504 by estimating the time band within which the reflecion light arrives. Thus the reflection light sent from the background is eliminated. Then part 1 is aimed to the edge of the target, and servo motor 31 is driven so that the output of each reception surface of converter 23 may always be zero. Thus an automatic tracking is possible. In this way, the effect of the background can be eliminated, ensuring an accurate automatic tracking and direction indication.
