Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate mechanical portions and enable aperture control to be performed stably by filling liquid crystal material between a pair of light transmittable electrodes provided opposedly within a light transmittable case and controlling the light transmission part of the liquid crystal according to the voltage to be supplied to the electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Out a pair of transparent electrodes 31, 32 provided within a cylindrical light-transmittable case 30, a recess 311 of a conical shape is formed in the electrode 31 and liquid crystal 33 of, e.g., scattering type, is filled between the electrodes 31, 32. The transparent electrodes 31, 32 have the electric field distribution proportional to the diameter of the recess 311 of conical shape, in which the liquid crystal 33 is re-arrayed according to the voltage to be supplied to the electrodes 31, 32 and the diameter of the circular light transmission part C is varied in the arrow directions, whereby the regulation of the quantity of light is accomplished.
