Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensibe glow plug with a quick temperature rise at the heat generating section ang high durability by employing a metal resistor made of rare earth element such as yttrium and nickel. CONSTITUTION:This glow plug is composed of a metal resistor 2 with a positive resistance temperature coefficient made of rare earth element and nickel, a heatproof metal pipe for housing the resistor 2, a heatproof insulated powder 3 packed between the metal pipe 1 and the metal resistor 2. It is so arranged that the metal resistor 2 is energized to generate heat by itself. The moment energization is started for presheating, a large current runs through the metal resistor 2. But, it generates heat quickly with the passage of energization time, and in proportion to the heat temperature, the resistance value of the resistor increases rapidly. Thus, the current through the resistor 2 reduces quickly in an invert proportion.
