Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the glow plug temperature from rising too high by connecting a resistance material with a large positive resistance temperature coefficient and another resistance material with a sufficiently smaller temperature coefficient in series in an auxiliary starting unit of an internal combustion engine using a glow plug. CONSTITUTION:When a key switch A is turned on, a relayIfirst closes the contactIa for a time t1 of a timer T1, flowing a large current, and the temperature of a glow plug G rises rapidly, then the contact IIa of a relay II is closed by the output from a timer T2, flowing the current through a current limiting resistor 2 so as to keep the temperature at an approximtely preset value. A resistance material 51 made of iron chromium wire with an almost constant resistance temperature coefficient and a resistance material 52 made of pure nickel wire with a large positive temperature coefficient are connected in series in a metal container 4 provided with an insulating material 6 to make up the resistor 2. Therefore, at the time of the engine start up the glow plug is kept at a sufficient temperature, and after the start up even if the power supply voltage is increased, the resistance value of the resistance material 52 is increased due to the heat in the resistor 2, thereby the applied voltage to the flow plug is not increased, preventing it from being overheated.
