NEW MATERIAL:A cephalosporin derivative of formula I or its salt (R1 is H or OH; X is H or methoxy; R2 is H, alkenyl, etc.; A is N or methyne).
EXAMPLE: D-7-[ α-( 4-Hydroxy-6-methylnicotinamide )phenylacetamido ]-3-(tetrazol-5-yl)-thiomethyl-Δ3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
USE: Antibacterial agent, additive of feed, and preservative. High antibacterial activity, and especially effective to gram-negative bacteria.
PROCESS: The title compound I is prepared by the acidamidation reaction of a compound II-a or its salt with 4-hydroxy-6-methylnicotinic acid III-a or its reactive derivative, in an organic solvent. When the carboxylic group of the compound III-a is protected, the protecting group is eliminated. The reactive derivative is e.g. acid halide, and the salt is an inorganic acid salt such as hydrochloride. When the nicotinic acid III is used as a free state, phosgene, etc. is used as a condensation agent.
