Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible working of highly accurate grooves on the surface of a glass substrate by cutting multiple and parallel grooves of an equal spacing on the substrate surface through the use of blades which are buried with diamond particles and are given the same blade tip angle as the groove angle. CONSTITUTION:Grooves 2 for accepting the optical fibers to be connected are formed at an equal spacing and in parallel on the surface of a substrate 1 whose material is glass. Here, the grooves 2 requiring high working accuracy are formed by cutting in which the grooves are cut by revolving the discs which are buried with diamond particles and have the blades given with the same blade tip angle as the required groove angles in the axial direction. Thereby, working of highly accurate grooves may be performed without producing chipping in the groove faces and the connection of extremely high reliability may be performed.
