Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform axial alignment of the terminals of connectors to themselves by etching the grooves which receive optical fibers and the grooves which receive rods for axial alignment on the surface of silicon single crystal wafers. CONSTITUTION:This comprises simultaneously working the grooves 11 which receive optical fiber strand groups 1 and the grooves 12 which receive guide pins 13 through plane bearing selective etching on the surface of wafers 10 of silicon single crystal, wherein the depth of the grooves 11 is made smaller than the diameter of the optical fiber strands, the grooves 12 are desirably taken at about several times the diameters of the optical fiber strands and since the groove angles formed through etching are intrinsic to the crystal and are invariable and the depth of the grooves is deter mined by the width of the strips of the etching patterns, it is possible to simultaneously work the grooves 11 and 12 with the accuracy of the order of mu.
