Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve arc start characteristics of a direct-current arc welder by providing a direct-current reactor composed of primary and secondary winding differing winding in direction, by connecting a series circuit of the secondary winding and a switching element in parallel to the primary winding and then by making the above-mentioned element conductive for a specific time.
CONSTITUTION: Wear type electrode 4 is in contact with base material 5 and when alternating-current inputs from input terminals 1, 2 and 3 are supplied to electrodes 4 and 5 by way of transformer T, rectifier RF and direct-current reactor DCL, the switching element TH7 turns ON by a signal from a gate circuit. Since sudden short current I flows through primary and secondary windings N1 and N2, Joule heat increases and an arc can start smoothly, improving start characteristics. On detecting a current through a main circuit, a detection circuit turns the gate circuit OFF to turn element TH7 OFF, so that a welding current will flow only primary winding N1 and will be in a stationary state.
