Abstract

CONSTITUTION: In the production of electrically conductive synthetic fibers by conjugate spinning of a thermoplastic polymer containing dispersed carbon black and another thermoplastic resin of good fiber-forming property, the polymer containing carbon black is melted in an extruder and passed through a pipe from the extruder to the spinning pack so that the shear speed of the polymer exceeds 0.001, which is given as the equation where r is the shear speed of the melted polymer in 1/sec, U is the average flow speed of the polymer in the pipe line in cm/sec, and D is the diameter of the pipe line in cm. Consequently, the deposition of a polymer of remarkably high carbon black content can be avoided.
