Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a propeller shaft from vibrating at a ship incorporating a screw propeller at its stern by providing a pair of skegs laterally leftwardly and rightwardly downwardly inclined from the hull of the ship in the vicinity of both sides of a propeller shaft to thereby increase tertiary components of following wake.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of skegs 18a, 18b laterally leftwardly and rightwardly downwardly inclined from the hull of a ship in the vicinity of both sides of a propeller shaft 13 at the ship incorporating a rudder 11 and a screw propeller 12 at the stern. The inclined angle of the skegs 18a, 18b with respect to the vertical central plane of the hull is substantially 120°. Thus, the water stream 20 from the stem passes through a bottom 15 and partly does not enter between the skegs 18a and 18b but flows above the propeller shaft 13. Relatively deep stream passes the bottom 15 and then enters into the tunner 19 between the skege. Accordingly, it can increase the tertiary components of the following wave distribution contributing to no bearing force to thus perform the above purpose.
